Mirva Member Feature

Julie Duggan Designs

Julie Duggan has spent the last 30 years working with gemstones and designing jewellery. Having travelled the world and lived in such stunning places as India and Italy she says it’s been easy for her to find inspiration for her designs.
Julie now lives in the beautiful UK County of Cornwall, working from a converted stables nestled in the countryside and looking over the water.
On her working process Julie says "I begin my design journey by purchasing the gemstones directly from their source.
Once I see the stones, the creative process takes over and I begin to play with the colour, drawing inspiration from my travels and from nature.
The silver work is always designed around the gemstones, which are then set with open backs. This enables them to be worn against the skin and to be seen in their best light.
Every piece is unique due to this handmade process.I feel incredibly lucky to have such an amazing home in Cornwall and work with the stones that I love."

You can find more of Julie's work HERE via her website, and Julie is a firm favourite at our Mirva Collective Popup Galleries in Penzance ( next session begins in April more news on that soon!) and she also regularly exhibits her beautiful silver and gemstone jewellery across Cornwall and beyond at events and festivals.

Meet The Artist Feature - Karen of KayCee Glass

KayCee Glass Art, Cornwall
Unique affordable artwork made for everyday living - Lovingly and individually hand-drawn and painted in Cornwall.

Karen Clowes (aka KayCee Designs) has been dabbling with glass paints for a number of years now. Her glass painting started as a hobby and a creative way of giving presents to friends and family. After numerous requests to paint glasses for friends of friends, Karen set up KayCee Designs and now creates and sells her unique, affordable and functional artwork. Her works include vases, teapots, drinking glasses, candle holders, coffee and tea mugs, as well as LED baubles and light boxes.

Karen’s pieces are inspired by the breath-taking surrounding land and seascapes of the beautiful West Penwith landscape surrounding her home town of Penzance. Her Cornish themed designs include rugged ‘Poldark Country’ Mine Engine Houses, Cornish fishing boats coming back to harbour, seagulls, shoals of shimmering mackerel and pots of late summer flowering Aganpanthus.

All of Karen’s work is unique, no tracing or transfers are involved; she individually hand draws and paints her designs direct onto the glassware using specialised glass paints with a range of amazingly different transparent, shimmering, metallic or frosted finishes. They are then oven baked to both strengthen the colour and to provide a top rack dish washer safe product which can be used time and time again.

**1 Note: tealight and LED baubles are also baked to strengthen the colours but because of the delicate nature of this glass and electronic components they are NOT dishwasher safe and should be cleaned with a damp cloth only.
